The Nordics and a New Era of Transatlantic Relations

We will discuss the role of foreign policy, especially transatlantic relations, in the election campaign, while also looking beyond the election to the years and decades ahead. We will debate whether Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership has brought about a new era of transatlantic relations in the Nordic foreign policy. Are the Nordic countries seen as a single bloc from the United States' perspective? And what can we expect from transatlantic relations under the next administration and beyond?

We will seek answers to these questions at a discussion event organised by The Ulkopolitist and the Finnish-Swedish cultural center Hanaholmen on the eve of the US presidential election, on Monday 4 November 2024 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

The discussion on the future of transatlantic politics will be led by:

  • Laura Saarikoski, Professor of Practice, University of Tampere
  • Alexandra Pasternak-Jackson, CEO, AmCham Finland
  • Joel Linnainmäki, Research Fellow, Finnish Institute of International Affairs
  • Marcus Oscarsson, Journalist (TBC)

The discussion will be moderated by Ulla Henttonen and Anton Engelberg from the Ulkopolitist.

The event will be in English. Coffee will be served before the event, starting at 3:00 PM.

The event is part of The Transatlantist, a project by The Ulkopolitist with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Finland. Listen to the podcast episodes produced as part of the project here.
