Globsol

Globsol is an annual educational programme for Swedish and Finnish upper secondary school students who are interested in sustainable development and current social issues. Globsol offers young people an opportunity to learn new things, as well as network and influence social development. The programme content is planned in close cooperation with participating schools to support the regular curriculum.

Globsol strengthens bilateral cooperation between Sweden and Finland by:

  • Acting as a meeting place for young people to learn about current issues.
  • Contributing to a better understanding of how the cooperation between Sweden and Finland works and how it can evolve to respond to future local and global challenges.
  • Offering an opportunity to learn more about the other country’s culture, history and society and getting to know new people from the neighbouring country.

Participants get to take part in an interactive educational programme. Through a variety of hands-on exercises, they can develop their cooperation skills and other competencies to equip them with the tools for continued social engagement. Thesessions include group work, talks and discussions. The programme overall consists of preparatory digital meetings and talks, culminating in a two-day conference at Hanaholmen. The programme is conducted in English.

Globsol was very well arranged and I met interesting people who I hope to be able to keep in touch with in the future. Still, the best thing was how inspired I got about the future – I felt born again afterwards.

Background

Globsol was initiated by the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation in 2005, and since then Hanaholmen has organised the programme annually in cooperation with various partner organisations. Previously, Globsol was aimed at young people aged 18-22, and the participants represented upper secondary schools, youth associations, colleges and universities in Sweden and Finland. Since 2023, Globsol has focused on upper secondary schools and works as part of, or as a complement to, social science classes.
