    Hanalys is a foreign policy debate forum that brings political decision-makers together with researchers, experts and analysts. The debate looks at the challenges facing the international community and how Finland and Sweden can help try to tackle them. The forum is organised in cooperation with the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Ministries for Foreign Affairs in Finland and Sweden.

    Background

    Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Timo Soini and Margot Wallström, founded Hanalys in 2017 to deepen the Swedish-Finnish foreign and security policy dialogue. Hanalys then brought together social debaters, researchers and politicians to debate current security and foreign policy issues with Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini as a host.

    Things happen and are going on all the time in both our countries' security sphere and, although we don't always have the same starting point, we have a lot in common. Therefore, Hanalys and Hanating are excellent forums for open dialogue at a high level. Not only that, the discussion has a ripple effect, as the audience takes the debate out onto a broader front.

    Hanalys is the annual high-level dialogue between Sweden and Finland on foreign and security policy hosted by the ministers for foreign affairs and organised by the ministries and Hanaholmen in cooperation with the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation.
